Synopsis

Keywords: Neuro: Brain

This lecture will provide an overview of the use of fMRI in psychiatric disorders, while also introducing the application of other psychoradiology modalities.

Psychoradiology, primarily using fMRI techniques, is a specialized field within radiology that intersects with psychiatry and psychology. This field applies radiological technologies, particularly fMRI in conjunction with multimodal MR imaging, along with advanced image acquisition and analysis algorithms, to investigate and guide the optimal treatment for mental illnesses. Since brain alterations in psychiatric patients are subtle, it is crucial to use quantitative, rapid, and efficient image analysis tools that integrate information from various imaging analyses to obtain clinically relevant information about patients' brain anatomy and function. While the focus of this talk is primarily on the application of fMRI, it will provide a summary of the most recent findings in psychoradiology, including the latest technical developments, and their implications for the clinical care of psychiatric patients.
