Synopsis

Keywords: Transferable skills: Research coordination, Transferable skills: Grantsmanship

In this presentation I'll tell the story of my nascent Australian academic journey, aiming to share what I've learnt about finding funding and building teams to those hoping to pursue a research career in MR.

In this presentation I'll tell the story of my Australian academic journey. I'll explain how nanotechnology research led me to build systems for hyperpolarized MRI and then MRI-guided radiotherapy, with brief detour to ultralow field. In sharing my journey, I will be aiming to impart what I've learnt about building a research team and finding the funding to pursue a research career in MR since getting my PhD in 2018. I will also give background on what's different about doing research in Australia (postdocs are really well paid!) for those who might be considering a move down under.
