MR-based liver iron quantification has advanced in recent years, with results including reproducibility across centers and vendors, quantification at 3T, 1.5T, and 0.55T, free-breathing acquisition methods, artificial intelligence-based analysis, and evaluation of the relationships between various quantitative MR parameters. This lecture will briefly review the significance and seminal studies relevant to MR-based iron quantification, followed by new developments and results over the past 2-3 years. The lecture will close with a summary of the state of the art and remaining gaps and unmet needs.
