Summary

This presentation will outline the basic concepts required for imaging researchers to file a patent with through their institution. The fundamental definitions of intellectual property and patents will first be introduced. Particular considerations on the viability of inventions to be patented will then be outlined. Using an example granted patent application, the sections of a patent will be described. Finally, a typical workflow describing how to initiate an invention disclosure and work with your institutional technology transfer office to file a patent will be presented.
