Synopsis
MRI allows for noninvasive evaluation of the pancreatic
parenchyma, pancreatic ducts, exocrine function, adjacent soft tissues, and
vascular structures in a single examination. This presentation reviews the
anatomy, physiology, and MR imaging of the pancreas that MRI Physicists need to know. At its conclusion,
participants should be able to:
-
Understand
the basic embryology of the pancreas.
-
Describe
the normal anatomy and relational landmarks of the pancreas.
-
Name the
exocrine and endocrine functions of the pancreas.
-
Name the
congenital anomalies of the pancreas.
-
Detail the
components of a pancreatic MRI protocol.
-
Recognize
challenges in MR imaging of the pancreas.
