Synopsis

This educational exhibit will provide an overview of software protections, and how these may implicate code development and use in open source projects. The exhibit will first discuss copyright of code. Subsequently, we will overview the multiple means to allow sharing of copyrighted coding including unlicensing, proprietary software agreements, and most importantly, open source licensing models. The exhibit will compare copyleft vs. permissive licensing, patent granting vs. patent silent licenses, and also provide recommendations for how to choose an open source license.
